1853 Woolwork Sampler by Charlotte Bailey
Victorian, dated December 1853. 11.75ins by 11.75ins wide. 1853 Woolwork Sampler by Charlotte Bailey. Framed in a modern gilded, gesso frame with glass.

Stitched to card with card backing.
The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Embroidered border inside a simple line border.
Colours olive green, pale blue, gold, orange, red and pink.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-13.
Verse reads
'When we devote our youth to God
Tis pleasing in his eyes:
A flow'r, when offer'd in the bud,
Is no vain sacrifice.'.
Dated December. 1853
and signed 'Charlotte Bailey.'.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
Minor stitch loss to the lower case alphabet, one divider line and the verse.
Some colours are slightly faded.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame has a tiny chip in the top right corner, otherwise sound and ready to hang.
