Large 1821 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Topping
George IV, dated February 23 1821. 20.75ins by 19.5ins wide. Large 1821 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Topping. Framed in a carved, gilt over wood, frame with gilt slip and glass.

Stitched to board with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours gold, blue, navy blue, copper, light green, orange, magenta and black.
Verse reads
'I Believe in God the Father Almighty,Maker of Heaven and
Earth And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was
conceived by the Holy Ghost Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead and buried;
He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the
dead; He ascended into Heaven;And sitteth on the reight hand of
God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to
judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost
The holy Catholick Church; The Communion of Saints;
The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including trees,
fruit,
windmill,
sailing ship,
flowers,
fruit baskets, crown, potted flowering plants and birds.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
Several holes, mainly along the bottom edge.
A few stains, and slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Some colours are faded, but still well defined.
Slight colour run to the signature.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
