Verse entitled 'The Virgins Prayer' reads
'Ye powers above, my Virgin heart inspire,
With all the greatness noble souls admire
Let virtue grow within my tender breast,
And may my vernal days be truly blest
My bloom be lovely, and my brow serene,
And let my heart be stranger to the spleen.
Let nothing low my humble actions stain,
While female tenderness, I still maintain.
Let me my virtue and my honor keep
Till wearied of this world in Death I sleep
Give me my lot beyond the raging woes,
To reach the harbour where the Just repose.
On this fair worsted does my needle write,
Both love and duty bids my heart indite
Each pleasing view, each finish'd line appears,
To shew, the improvement of my growing years
With gratitude to God, my voice I raise
That I am early taught to seek his ways,
And this my constant care, both morn and night
Shall be to give you comfort and delight
And in those lines dear Parents I impart
The fondest, tend'rest ??? of my heart'.
