Circa 1650 Whitework Band Sampler

Circa 1650. 33.75ins by 5.25ins wide. Circa 1650 Whitework Band Sampler. Framed in a modern wood frame with slightly rippled glass.

Mounted on black acid free card with chipboard backing.

Worked in fine silk thread on linen in a splendid variety of stitches and whitework techniques including cut and drawn work.

Floral and geometric bands and joined panels.

Alphabet A-Z in lower case at the top.

Reads

'THIS IS MY BEGINNING

GOD BE MY GOOD SPE

IN GRACE AND WTT'.

No signature or date (typical for the type of sampler).

CONDITION: Good.

One hole.

No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.

A few breaks in the stitchwork.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang.
