William IV, dated 1832. 6.5ins by 6.25ins wide. 1832 Circular Miniature Mourning Sampler by M L. Unframed.

The sampler is worked in dark brown silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Triple line border.

Verses read

AH lovely appearance of death

What sight upon earth is so fair

Net all the gay pageants that breathe

Can with a dead body compare

With ??? Delight I ???

The ??? ??? The spirit is fled

In love with the ??? Way

And longing to be in the ???

How blest is ?? ??? ???

Of all that could burden his mind

How easy the soul that has left

This wearisome body behind

Of evil incapable thou

Whose relice with envy I see

No longer in misery now

No longer a sinner like me'.

Signed with initials 'M L' and dated 1832.

CONDITION: Generally good. No holes.

A number of pale, patchy stains around the outside.

Stitch losses to the verse.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
