Majolica 'Jumbo' Elephant Figure

Victorian, circa 1880. 10.6ins high, 9.4ins wide, 3.9ins depth.

Majolica figure which features 'Jumbo', the elephant. Jumbo was obtained by London Zoo in 1865 as a two year old, where he became a favourite attraction.

This model can also be found as a Staffordshire Figure. Colouration: brown, green, white, are predominant.

 

Condition

CONDITION: Very good. No restoration. KILN EFFECTS: glaze miss to the front of the base;

a few touchmarks to the front;

craze lines to the head, legs, trunk and reverse.
