Pair Rare Staffordshire recumbent whippets on cushions

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 3.1ins high, 4.7ins wide, 2.6ins depth.

Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature whippets, one scratching its head, recumbent on a cushion base.







Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.




Condition

Right facing: Generally good. Small abrasion to whippet's nose.



A few paint losses to the black enamel.





Some rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: firing crack to the reverse of the cushion;



over glazed shrinkage line at the top of the whippet's right front leg and right back leg.





RESTORATION: Remodelled left front paw and right ear.





Filled chip to base edge.



Left facing: Generally good. A few paint losses to the black enamel.





Some rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: firing crack to the reverse of the cushion;



shrinkage line to the reverse of the cushion, running up and over the whippet's right front leg, with associated chip.





RESTORATION: whippet's left hind paw and left front leg remodelled.





Stabilised and retouched hairline to the cushion and whippet's tail.
