Victorian, circa 1860. 7.9ins high, 6.9ins wide, 3.3ins depth. Parr Factory Staffordshire figure with a theatrical and literary theme which features Sancho Panza seated on an ass, stood on a shaped base.
The piece is titled, 'Sancho Panza' . Dull gilt embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the reverse.
This piece represents the character Sancho Panza from the novel 'Don Quixote'. Sancho acts as squire to Don Quixote. Maker's marks painted to the underside. Book reference ,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 274, figure 987.
CONDITION: Good. A few paint losses to the ground.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: small firing hole to left side of donkey's neck.
RESTORATION. Both donkey's ears and Sancho's right foot reglued and join retouched.
Minor retouched paint losses.
