Small Minton Majolica lion mask jardiniere
Victorian, circa 1872. 11.2ins high, 11.8ins wide, 11.8ins depth. Minton Majolica jardinière which features lion mask handles and lion paw feet.
Turquoise ground version. Colouration: turquoise, pink, ochre, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery.
Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1872.
CONDITION: Good. Bruise above one foot.
Small flake to exterior and rim.
Slight abrasion to lion's noses and feet.
KILN EFFECTS: glaze miss to the exterior, interior and rim;
kiln detritus caught in the glaze to one ring;
glaze run to the brown glaze;
two small firing pits to the rim;
craze lines to the underside.
RESTORATION: One foot reglued and join retouched.
