George III, circa 1800. 12ins by 9.5ins wide. Antique Georgian Silkwork Embroidery Picture of a shepherdess. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with rippled, old glass.
The embroidery is worked in silk on a silk ground. Colours browns, cream, green, pink, blues and grey. Subject is a country/rural scene with a shepherdess tending her sheep.
CONDITION: Generally Good. One small hole to the silk ground, and slight pulling to the ground around the lady's neck and right arm.
Only traces of original blue sky paint remain. The rest of the sky is left with patchy staining where the paint has flaked off.
Colours are mostly good and strong. No colour run. Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
