Staffordshire hen and chicks on nest tureen & cover
Victorian, circa 1860. 6.1ins high, 6.9ins wide, 4.7ins depth.
Staffordshire tureen with cover which features a hen with her seven chicks.
One of the chicks is perched on her back, the others peep out from underneath her, directly on the ground, no base.
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Condition
Dish: Generally good. Slight wear to one chick's head.
KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray russet glaze.
RESTORATION: left wing reglued and join retouched;
retouched paint losses to feathers and beaks;
stabilised and retouched crack to chest area.
Cover: Good. RESTORATION; retouched paint losses to neck and feathers.
