Large Rare Staffordshire cow spill vase
Victorian, circa 1860. 12.4ins high, 11ins wide, 3.5ins depth. Staffordshire spill vase with a pastoral theme which features a cow, stood on an oval base.
Russet and white version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated mainly to the front.
Book reference not found.
Small chip to the shredded clay decoration.
Paint losses to the cow's tail and eyes.
Some rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln grit caught in the glaze to the cow's head and top of base;
a few small firing pits to the reverse.
RESTORATION: Retouched flake to one of the cow's udders
and thistle leaves.
Stabilised and retouched hairline to base near cow's front legs.
