Pair Staffordshire russet & white curly tailed spaniels

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 12.2ins high, 9.4ins wide, 4.1ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature a spaniel with a curly tail, seated directly on the ground, no base. Russet and white version. Dull gilt embellishment.

Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse.

Maker's marks painted to the underside.

Right facing: Generally good.

Some rubbing to gilt;

flecks of stray coloured glaze all over;

kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the reverse.

RESTORATION: Stabilised and retouched crack to the spaniel's back and to the reverse.

Retouched paint losses to muzzle,

russet markings

and paws.

Left facing: Generally good.

Some rubbing to gilt.

KILN EFFECTS: glaze miss to both the left paws;

shrinkage cracks to the underside.

RESTORATION: Stabilised and retouched shrinkage crack to the spaniel's back and tail.

Filled chip to right paw.

Retouched flake to tail.
