
George III, dated 1815. 13.75ins by 12ins wide. 1815 Windmill Sampler by Mary Swiney. Framed in an old wood frame with glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours greens, cream, blue, yellow, copper, purple, browns and pink.
Inscription reads
' With all thy Soul
Love God above.
And as thyself
Thy neighbour love.
' Signed and dated '1815 Mary Swiney Aged 12 years'.
A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a windmill,
a pagoda,
weeping willow trees, potted flowering plants, trees, laden with fruit, fruit baskets, birds and fir trees.
CONDITION: Generally good. A number of holes.
A few pale stain specks.
Stitch losses to the border and motifs.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven
.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
