Staffordshire 'Winters Tale' spill vase
Victorian, circa 1860. 11.2ins high, 6.1ins wide, 4.7ins depth. Parr Factory Staffordshire spill vase with a theatrical and Literary theme which features Perdita and Florizel, stood on an oval base. The piece is titled, 'Winters Tale' to the front.
Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt embellishment. This piece represents The Winter's Tale which is a play written by William Shakespeare. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 298, figure 1086.
Condition
Generally good.
A few small paint losses to the floral garland,
staff
and shoe worn by Florizel.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
Kiln effects: shrinkage crack to the underside;
touch mark to the front of base.
Retouched paint losses to ground,
clothing
and hair of both figures.
Perdita's neck has been reglued and join retouched.
Remodeling to the back of the spill vase.
