Carltonware Guinness Seal Lamp & Shade

20thC. 15ins by 9ins wide. Carltonware Guinness advertising lamp base and original shade.





The base is modeled as a black seal on a green and white base with the slogan 'GUINNESS IS GOOD FOR YOU' printed around both sides. Hole to the side where the wire comes through. Vent hole underneath with printed maker's marks 'Carlton Ware MADE IN ENGLAND "TRADE MARK"'.





Complete with bulb fitting and wire (untested). The shade, in the shape of a ball, balances on the end of the seals nose and has the slogan 'GUINNESS IS GOOD FOR YOU' printed onto a silver strip which is fixed around the center. Cut away circles and stars to the top which would project the light in these shapes. The ball is designed to revolve on the seal's nose and is propelled by the heat of the light.

Condition

CONDITION: Shade: Good. No restoration. Some tarnishing to the stars.





A few of the star's 'points' have lifted from the shade.







Some scratches and a few dents to the blue metallic surface.

















Base: Good. No restoration. Notable crazing.







The pivot, which supports the shade on the lamp fitting, is probably a replacement, but is in good working order.
