Carltonware Guinness Toucan Lamp & Shade

Mid 20thC. 17ins high. Carltonware Guinness advertising Toucan Lamp with shade.



The lamp base is modeled as a Toucan standing over a pint of Guinness on a green oval base.







Around the base are the words 'How grand to be a Toucan Just think what Toucan do If he can say as you can Guinness is good for you'.





Hole at the side where the wire (cut off) comes through.



Small vent hole and printed maker's marks underneath 'CarltonWare Hand painted MADE IN ENGLAND "TRADE MARK"'.






The shade is camel in color and has a printed motif around the bottom of a man with a rope tied around his waist. He is holding a pint of Guinness in his right hand and with his left hand is having a 'tug of war' against a toucan balancing two pints of Guinness on its beak, a kangaroo, an ostrich, a lion, a seal, a bear and a tortoise.

Condition

No restoration. Base: Good.

Tight hairline to lower base edge next to wire hole.





Paint flake to one eye.



Kiln effect: notable crazing.





Flex cut, therefore plug missing.



Shade: Fair. Some creasing.









Small tear to reverse.



Top trim partly unattached to reverse.



Metal frame has become unglued from shade.





A couple of water stains to reverse and a few to interior.







Overall discolouration to camel ground.
