Majolica Palissy Snake Handled Soup Tureen

Victorian, circa 1890. 8.3ins high, 12.2ins wide, 10.6ins depth. Majolica soup tureen which features snake handles, a lizard finial and two faces either side of the tureen.

Colouration: blue, green, ochre, are predominant.

Cover: Generally good.

Wear to the high points of the molding.

KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to the ivy;

shrinkage lines to the ground and ivy.

RESTORATION. Filled chips to rim and flange.

Retouching to crocodiles right foot and neck.

Dish: Generally good.

Small flake to snake handle,

and some to leaves and faces.

KILN EFFECTS: touch marks to the foot rim.

RESTORATION. Filled chips to rim.

Remodelled ends to three of the snakes tails.

Fourth snakes tail reglued and join retouched.

Retouching to ground near snakes.
