The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

The sampler features a variety of intricate horizontal patterned bands. The upper two thirds has a number of very finely worked bands, including 'boxers', flower arrangements, acorns and many different patterns.

 

The lower third has bands of cutwork and whitework.

Colours green, dark brown, gold, silver, blue and pink. Alphabets A-Z in upper case. Signed and dated 'E.Y 1672'.

Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.

Mounting: The sampler is stitched to calico slip over mountboard board.

Frame backed with paper and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Good. The outside edge has uniformly spaced, visible rusted tack holes, from a previous mounting.

There is some patchy staining at the bottom of the sampler.

No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

The silks bright and glossy.

No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
