Staffordshire Pearlware Bocage Romulus and Remus Figure Group

pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 8.3ins high, 7.1ins wide, 4.4ins depth. Staffordshire Pottery pearlware bocage figure group with a mythological theme.

The piece features babies Romulus and Remus with a she-wolf, with birds perched in the tree behind.

The scene sits on a shaped base.

The piece is titled, 'ROMULUS & REMUS'.

Decorated mainly to the front.

This piece represents part of the Roman myth of Romulus and Remus, twin brothers who were saved and suckled by a she-wolf.

Condition

CONDITION: Good. Small chips to a few flowers.

RESTORATION. One child's leg reglued and join retouched.

One bird reglued and join retouched.

One branch reglued and join retouched.

Filled chips to a few leaves of the bocage, but on the whole the bocage is mostly original and intact.
