French Palissy Majolica Platter with Fish

Victorian, circa 1875. 9.1ins high, 14ins wide, 2.2ins depth. Unidentified French French Palissy Majolica wall platter.

Features a fish (carp),

a snake,

a frog,

a lizard,

shellfish,

insects

and leaves.

Ripple effect ground.

Colouration: green, blue, brown, are predominant.

Book reference, similar piece illustrated in,'The Collectors Encyclopedia of Majolica' by Mariann Katz-Marks, page 138, figure 172. Possibly by Thomas Sergent, because similar to the marked(allegedly) example found in this book reference.

Condition

CONDITION: Good. A few flakes scattered around.

RESTORATION. Filled chip to end of tail fin.

Two stabilised and retouched cracks to rim on one end.
