
George III, circa 1800. 14.6ins high, 11.6ins wide, 1.6ins deep. Pair of oval Antique Georgian Silkwork Embroidered pictures depicting a shepherd and shepherdess in a country scene.
The embroidery is worked in silk on a silk ground, with painted details on the ground.
Colours browns, cream, green, pink, blues and grey.
Wonderfully stitched scenes - the shepherd holding a crook, sat beneath a tree, his sheep in the foreground and a cottage in the background.
The shepherdess is similar, with a picnic basket beside her.
Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with rippled, old glass.
CONDITION: The embroideries are in very good condition. The frames are in fair condition. The embroideries with: No holes or rips. No staining. Colours are good and strong, the silks bright and glossy. No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched, though the shepherd sits slightly unevenly in it's frame.
Frames with visible splits where original joins are present from the making, but they are sturdy and can be hung as-is.
Also showing some wear.
Enamel under the glass has flaked away in places.
