
Victorian, circa 1860. 20.5ins high, 26.6ins wide, 1ins deep. Antique Sailor's Woolwork Embroidery Picture of Ships in a Bay.
The embroidery is worked in wool on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Colours blue, brown, cream, green, black, grey, orange and red.
Scene depicts a bay with a large three masted sailing ship,
a smaller sailing ship, two steam powered boats
and a rowing boat on the water.
On the shore there is a village on a hill, with buildings, a church and windmills.
Framed in an old veneered wooden frame with rippled, old glass.
Mounting: The embroidery is tacked to a wood stretcher frame. Frame backed with paper.
CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.
Small patchy stain above the sails of the main ship.
No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run. A scattering of debris caught under the glass.
Stretching is neat and even.
Frame has some chipped veneer sections,
but overall is in good condition and ready to hang.
