George III, circa 1800. 11.8ins high, 11.8ins wide, 1.6ins deep. Antique Georgian Applique Embroidery depicting a country scene.
The embroidery is worked in a variety of threads and materials, on a felt-like ground.
Figures faces and hands are worked in paper.
Wonderfully worked scene depicts three figures,
a cat in the foreground,
a cottage behind, a ship sailing out to sea in the background.
The male figure in the scene appears to be wearing tartan, suggesting a Scottish origin.
Also noteworthy are the seated ladies red shoe and little handbag.
Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with glass.
CONDITION: Good. One small hole.
Patchy staining to the sky.
Colours are good and strong.
Frame is split in four places, where it was joined in original manufacture. However, it is sturdy and stable and ready to hang.
