William and Mary period, dated 1693. 21.2ins high, 8.1ins wide, 0.6ins deep. William and Mary period Band Sampler, 1693, by Sarah Maydman.

The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Divider lines in various patterns.

Colours green, light brown, pink, red and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case.

Dated 1693.

Signed and dated 'Sarah Maydman Born the 13 Day Of Dec Between 2 And 3 a clock In Morn In Portsmouth 81.'.

Portsmouth is a port city on the south coast of England. We could infer that if the sampler was finished in 1693 and Sarah was born in 1681, Sarah was around 12 years old when she stitched this sampler.

A scattering of motifs, a wonderful pair of boxer figures and a dog.

Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.

Mounting: The sampler is stitched over linen and stretched over acid free board.

Frame backed with chipboard and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few dark stains.

No stitch losses. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
