
Late 17thC, circa 1690. 26.9ins high, 7.9ins wide, 0.6ins deep. 17th Century Antique Band Sampler with Whitework, by S.F.
The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Features a wonderful variety of horizontal patterned bands across the sampler. Includes acorns, leaves, flowers.
The bottom half features bands of cutwork and whitework.
Colours red, copper, silver, green and blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case. Signed with initials 'SF'.
Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.
Mounting: The sampler is glued to card around the extreme edges only, not visible to the front apart from in one area.
Frame backed with wood and sealed with tape.
CONDITION: Good. A couple of small holes.
A few light patchy stains.
A couple of dark stains to the lower section.
Stitch loss to the letter Q.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
