Scottish Antique Band Sampler, 1754

George II, dated 1754. 26.6ins high, 11.4ins wide, 0.8ins deep. Scottish George II Band Sampler, stitched in 1754.

The sampler is worked in wool threads on a canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.

Colours red, blue, dark brown, purple, yellow and green.

Alphabets A-S in upper case, numbers 1-10, and many family initials.

Signed and dated '1754 MC'.

Motifs including a lady and a gentleman.

A variety of horizontal patterned bands across the sampler.

Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.

Mounting: The sampler is fixed to card. Frame backed with cardboard and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few pale stains.

Stitch losses to the divider lines.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
