Antique Sampler, 1792, by Mary Pointon

George III, dated 1792. 12.4ins high, 12.8ins wide, 1.2ins deep. Georgian Sampler, 1792, by Mary Pointon.

The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch.

Geometric pattern border. Colours green, gold, silver, pink, brown and blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-20.

Signed and dated 'Mary Pointon's Work 1792'.

Unusual, good set of motifs arranged in a scene.

A large potted flowering plant to the middle,

with a beehive and bees to the right

and a bird and butterfly to the left.

Framed in an old wood frame with glass.

Mounting: The sampler is stretched over acid free mountboard and stitched.

Frame backed with card and sealed with tape.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few pale stains.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Fold line slightly visible horizontally across the middle.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
