
Victorian, circa 1871. 9.6ins high, 14.6ins wide, 14.6ins depth. Minton Majolica jardinière which features illustrated flora and fauna, including: a cockerel, a kingfisher (bird), a flowering magnolia, a lobster claw, swallows, a bee, insects and flowers.
Artist and designer, William Stephen Coleman, was paid £200 by Minton for the designs on the 'Naturalist' service, which this jardiniere features.
Colouration: white, turquoise, yellow, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, '1445'. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1871.
CONDITION: Generally Good. Some wear to interior from use.
KILN EFFECTS: glaze pops to the rim on one side.
RESTORATION. Two stabilised and retouched cracks down the side.
Filled chips to the lower foot rim.
