The sampler is worked in silk threads on a canvas ground, mainly in cross stitch.
Divider lines in various patterns.
Colours green, copper, gold, silver, pink, black and blue.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-20.
Verse reads, 'Compare the miseries on earth with the joys of Heaven and the Length of the one with the Eternity of the other then will the journey seem short and your Trouble little.'.
Signed and dated, 'Margaret Hoskin finished this work october the 19 1796 Aged 10 years.'.
A few motifs including birds, a fruit basket, a dog and flowers.
Framed in an old wood frame with glass.
Mounting: The sampler is tacked to a wooden board. Frame backed with card and sealed with tape.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. White backing showing through in places due to the coarse weave of the canvas ground.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
