The sampler is worked in silk on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours gold, pale blue, light brown, copper, green and silver.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-8.
Verse reads, 'Come ye that love the Lord, And let our joys be Known, Join in a song with sweet accord, And thus surround the throne.'
Signed and dated, 'Jane Joslin Her Sampler Ended May 4 1849 aged 14 years.'.
A good set of motifs, including stags,
lions, dogs,
birds, trees, laden with fruit,
a crown,
peacocks
and potted flowering plants.
Framed in an old, possibly original, mahogany frame with rippled, old glass.
Mounting: The sampler is tacked to a wood stretcher frame. Frame backed with chipboard and sealed with tape.
CONDITION: Very Good. No holes. No stains. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
