Georgian, circa 1820. 18.3ins high, 26ins wide, 2.2ins deep. Georgian Woolwork Embroidered Picture of a Castle by a Lake.
The embroidery is worked in wool on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Pictorial scene depicts a castle by a lake.
Figures in the foreground under a tree.
A boat sails on the lake and there is a boat on the shoreline.
Framed in an old, possibly original rosewood frame with glass.
Mounting: The embroidery is tacked to a wood stretcher frame. Frame backed with chipboard.
No holes. A couple of thread losses in top right corner.
A few slightly loose threads in places.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
Frame has some wear, but is presentable and could be hung 'as is' in our opinion.
