Charles II Antique Silkwork Embroidery Picture of Abraham

Late 17thC, Circa 1690. 9.4ins high, 15ins wide, 1.8ins deep. Charles II Antique Silkwork Embroidery Picture.

The embroidery is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Colours blues, cream, gold, greens and browns.

Pictorial scene depicts a biblical scene of Abraham and Sarah sending away Hagar.

Motifs include wonderfully detailed examples of a lion,

birds,

insects,

flowers and fruits.

And a castle can be seen in the background.

Framed in an old, possibly original, walnut wood frame with glass.

Mounting: The embroidery is tacked to a wood stretcher frame. Frame backed with acid free cardboard.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

No holes.

Uniform age darkening of the ground.

Slight stitch loss to a couple of the faces.

Some of the colours are faded, but still defined.

Frame showing some wear, otherwise sound.
