Antique Sampler, Circa 1740 Silkwork Band Sampler

Mid 18thC, Circa 1740. 18.1ins high, 8.3ins wide, 0.4ins deep. Antique Sampler, Circa 1740 Silkwork Band Sampler.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Divider lines in various patterns.

Colours greens, cream, yellow, blues and brown.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-15

A good set of motifs, including stags,

birds,

oak leaves and acorns,

fir trees,

and crowns.

Framed in a wood wood frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The sampler is loose mounted over card.

Frame backed with brown paper.

CONDITION: Good.

One small hole.

Uniform age darkening of the ground.

No stitch losses, just one loose thread to the ground.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
