Georgian, circa 1820. 13ins high by 22ins wide. Circa 1830 Country Mansion House Embroidery. Framed in an impressive, old wood frame, with rippled old glass.
Fixed to a wood stretcher frame. Brown paper backing to the reverse.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Geometric pattern border.
Colours copper, cream, gold, browns and greens.
The embroidery depicts a large country mansion house and its surrounding grounds.
Figures, figures on horseback and dogs in the lower left foreground.
No signature or date.
No stitch losses, just one loose thread.
Uniform age darkening of the ground.
Colours are a little faded, but still strong.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame showing minor wear and chips, but is structurally sound.
