
Victorian, dated 1895. 19ins by 22.5ins wide. Circa 1895 HMS Grafton Ship embroidery. Framed in an old, probably original, gilded, gesso frame.
Rippled, old glass cover. Fixed to card with chipboard backing.
The embroidery is worked in silk, on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
The secene depicts HMS Grafton - this ship served in the China sea from 1895-1896. The ship scene is surrounded by flags, which include the Union Jack.
There is a photograph of a young boy in sailors uniform, with an inscription above reading, 'REMEMBERANCE OF MY CRUISE IN JAPAN CHINA'.
CONDITION: Generally good. No holes. A couple of patchy stains.
No stitch losses. Colours are a little faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
