Pair of Sailors Woolwork Pictures of a Man-of-War Ships. Worked in wool on a canvas ground. Colours white, blue, brown, red, pink and cream. Both feature a three-masted Man-of-War ship, flying a British red ensign flag (a flag that originated in the early 17th century as an English ensign flown by the Royal Navy and later specifically by British Merchant Seamen). One of the pictures shows the ship full sail. In the other picture sails are down and furled away. Both framed in an old, possibly original, gilt painted wooden frames. Rippled, old glass. Tacked onto a wooden stretcher frames and backed with brown paper. (Dimensions details - Larger, full sail example: excluding frame: 14.8ins high, 19.5ins wide.
