
Victorian, circa 1870. 3.9ins high, 7.9ins wide, 7.1ins depth. George Jones Majolica sardine box which features a sardine laying on a bed of reeds forming the lid and a wicker basket forming the dish.
Turquoise ground version. Colouration: green, turquoise, ochre, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the George Jones pottery. Bears a pattern number, '5219 111'.
CONDITION: Cover: Generally good. Some lime leaching in places.
RESTORATION. Section of rim reglued and join retouched.
Very tight, stabilised hairline to rim.
Dish: Good. No restoration. Slight wear to inner rim.
KILN EFFECTS: notable stained crazing;
touch mark to the interior.
