
Victorian, dated 1849. 12.25 ins high by 11.25ins wide. 1849 House Sampler by Jane Ball. Framed in an old, possibly original, gilt over wood, frame with glass.
Fixed to linen with chipboard backing.
The sampler is finely worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours greens, magenta, copper and pale blue.
Verse reads,
'The lord my pasture shall prepare
And feed me with a shepherds care
His presence shall my wants supply
And guard me with a watchful eye
My noon day walks he shall attend
And all my midnight hours defend'.
Signed and dated, 'Jane Ball Aged 11 years 1849'.
A good and unusual set of motifs, including a house, potted flowering plants, birds and rabbits
CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
Very slight colour run around some of the green threads.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
