Antique Sampler, 1833, by Jane Robinson

William IV, dated 1833. 20.25ins high by 20.75ins wide. 1833 Sampler by Jane Robinson. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.

Fixed to board with wood backing.

The sampler is worked in cotton and wool on a canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours reds, blue, green, light brown, copper, silver, white, magenta, peach and pinks.

Alphabets A-Y in upper case.

Verse reads,

'Next unto god dear parents i addrefs

Myself to you in humble thankfulnefs

For all you care and charge on me bestowd

The means of learning unto me allwd

Go on dear parents let me still pursue

Those golden arts the friendlefs never knew'.

Signed and dated,

'Jane Robinson her work 1833'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk,

lions,

birds,

flowers,

potted flowering plants,

trees, laden with fruit,

fruit baskets,

fir trees,

a crown,

thistles,

angels,

and stags

CONDITION: Good. No holes.

One stain speck.

Minor stitch losses to a couple of the motifs

and letters of the alphabet.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
