
George IV, dated 1828. 16ins by 12.5ins wide. 1828 Saint Paul's Church Sampler Eleanor Morgan. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Fixed to board.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering leafy border. Colours black, cream, blue, copper, gold, pink, brown and green.
Verse reads,
'Oh happy souls that love the Lord,
He will return them love for love
All needful grace he will afford
To such as seek the Joys above
They in his kind protection share
He is their father and their friend
Jesus will soften all their care
And help in every trouble send'.
Signed and dated, 'Eleanor Morgans Work Aged 8 Years October 9 1828'.
A good set of motifs, including locks of hair, 'Saint Pauls Church', dogs, birds, angels, potted flowering plants, trees, laden with fruit, crowns, fruit baskets and butterflies.
CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes, some with repairs, mainly around the edges.
No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
