Antique Sampler, 1842, by Mary Ann Ryder

Victorian, dated 1842. 17ins high by 17ins wide. 1842 Sampler by Mary Ann Ryder. Framed in a wood frame with glass.

Fixed to wood backing.

The sampler is worked in a cotton-like thread, on a canvas ground.

Cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Meandering strawberry border and divider lines in various patterns.

Colours green, cream, gold, blues and black.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-15

Verse reads,

'Time future is not, and may never be:

Time present is the only time for me.'.

Signed and dated

'MARY ANN, RYDER. 1842'.

A couple of fruit basket motifs.

CONDITION: Very Good. No holes.

Two pale stain specks.

No stitch losses.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
