
Victorian, dated 1847. 16.5ins high by 17.5ins wide. 1847 Scottish sampler by Isabela Kilgour. Framed in an old black frame with glass.
Fixed to card with wood backing.
The sampler is worked in wool on a canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours red, cream, yellow, pale blue, dark brown, pink, orange, greens and navy blue.
Alphabet A-Z in upper case and family initials.
Signed and dated,
'Isabela Kilgour Her Work Aged 10 Years 1847'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk,
birds,
flowers,
potted flowering plants,
fruit baskets,
hearts,
flowering trees
and thistles
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
One pale stain speck.
Minor stitch losses to the border, divider lines
and motifs.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
