Framed in an old wood frame with glass and a wood backing.
Glued to a card backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours greens, cream, yellow, white, black, blues and pink.
Verse entitled, 'Live to Die' reads,
'You whose fond ?hen do to heaven aspire? Make those blefs abodes your ?ule I ??sire
If you are wise and have that girls to gain
Use well your time ??? ??? An Hour in vain
??? Not ??? Honest your vain Thoughts employ
But think this day the laft you fhall enjoy'.

A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a lady and a gentleman, lions, stars, dogs, birds, angels, potted flowering plants, stags, squirrels, fir trees, cross, crowns, hearts, a shepherd and two shepherdess' tending their sheep, a windmill sailing boats, a mermaid, a cow, a peacock, butterflies, diamonds, fleur-de-lis and houses
CONDITION: Generally Good. A few holes.
A few stain specks.
Significant stitch losses to the verse, and a few to the motifs.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
