
George III, dated 1809. 14.25ins high by 12.25ins wide. 1809 Sampler by Ann Shaw.
Framed in an old, gilt over wood frame (repainted) with rippled, dimpled, old glass.
Tacked to a wood stretcher frame.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours pink, cream, blue, green, copper, silver, gold and black.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-19.
Verse reads,
'Make much of every Moment of your Time
If you aspire in art to be sublime
No minutes surely bring us more Content
Then those in useful Studies spent
Content is a continual Store
And he's unwise that asks for more
Dare to be just your Fame regard
For Virtue is its own Reward'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including a flower basket and floral garlands,
crowns,
and fruit baskets.
CONDITION: Good.
A few small holes.
A few patchy stains.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching over the frame is a little uneven at the top and bottom.
Frame with age related wear and tear, but in our opinion, ready to hang.
