Giant Staffordshire Hen on Nest Tureen

Victorian, circa 1860. 13.8ins high, 16.5ins wide, 12.2ins depth.

Staffordshire Pottery egg tureen and cover which features a hen sitting with her eggs, resting on a basketweave oval base.

Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Maker's marks painted to the interior.

 

Condition

CONDITION: Hen: Generally good.

Small flake to beak.

RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched cracks to rim, below tail

and hen's chest.

Stabilised and retouched bruises to rim.

Filled chip to rim.

Retouching to paint losses to hen's body.

Nest: Generally good.

Paint losses to rim and exterior.

KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln grit caught in the glaze to the interior.

RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched crack to rim and side.

Filled chips to inner rim.
