
pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 11.4ins high, 5.7ins wide, 4.7ins depth. Staffordshire Pottery pearlware bocage figure with a mythological theme which features Diana, pulling an arrow from her quiver, stood on a shaped base.
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.
Open bottomed.
This piece represents Diana - the Roman goddess of the hunt, the moon and birthing. Book reference ,'English Earthenware Figures 1740-1840' by Pat Halfpenny, page 180, figure 1.
CONDITION: Generally good. Abrasion to her nose.
RESTORATION. Figure reglued through the ankles and joins retouched.
Remodelled left branch and leaves.
Filled chips to her quiver, head dress and dog's ears.
Bow and right hand reglued and joins retouched.
Retouched paint losses to ground.
