
Victorian, circa 1860. 5.1ins high, 1.8ins wide, 1.6ins depth. Staffordshire Pottery figure which features a slave in chains, stood on a circular base.
The piece is titled, 'UNCLE TOM' .
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.
Vent hole to the underside.
This piece represents Uncle Tom, a character from the anti-slavery novel 'Uncle Tom's Cabin', first published in 1851.
Maker's marks painted to the underside.
CONDITION: Good.
Some paint loss to the chains.
KILN EFFECTS: thin glaze application to some of the black enamel;
firing hole between Tom's feet.
RESTORATION. Head reglued and join retouched.
Retouching to some of the black enamel.
