Lonitz Majolica Mermaid & Poseidon Planter

Victorian, circa 1870. 8.7ins high, 15.7ins wide, 11.4ins depth. Lonitz Majolica planter which features mermaids to both ends and face of Poseidon to front and back.

Colouration: cobalt blue, turquoise, ochre, are predominant.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Lonitz pottery.

 

Condition

CONDITION: Good. Some flakes to leaves.

Small flake to chest.

KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage crack to the rim;

kiln grit caught in the glaze to the interior.

RESTORATION. Remodelled section of ribbon around Poseidon's head.

Filled chip to mermaid's hand.

A few small retouched chips and flakes to hair, hand, ground and feet.
