Scottish Sampler With House, c.1830

Undated, circa 1830. 17ins high by 8ins wide. Undated Scottish Sampler with house. Framed in a wood frame with glass.

Fixed to card with wood backing.

The sampler is worked in cotton and wool on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

Cross linked chain border.

Colours red, pale green, white, black, orange, navy blue and pink.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case, numbers 1-12, and family initials.

Inscription reads,

'In Christ God Is Love'.

No signature or date.

A few motifs including a house with a garden,

birds,

hearts

and flowers.

CONDITION: Good.

One hole.

Slight patchy staining in top left.

Some stitch losses to the border, divider lines, initials, motifs, letters and numbers.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Unevenly stretched.

Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
